"Our Five Senses" Art & Play Guide

$30.00

Children will discover and learn as they use their five senses in art and play. Our senses help us gather information and process the world around us. Using our senses helps us feel engaged, connected, and whole. This guide offers creative experiences that delight the senses and invite children of all ages and developmental stages to make connections, explore deeply and freely, and get curious. As usual, we’ve designed every invitation to be flexible and open-ended, so you can take the sensory experiences outside or stay in on a rainy day. From fragrant spices and popping bubble wrap to textural collages and smushy dough, we help you establish a sensory environment for children where they can explore and learn about who they are and how they fit into the world around them.

Our guides blur the line between art and play. They are inclusive and honor each child’s individuality and way of thinking and working. They are more than a collection of art ideas; they are the key to a cohesive, child-centered, manageable creative practice for your classroom or any space where children gather, explore, learn, and grow.

Our guides are 25 pages and include:

  • 20 creative invitations using every day, low-prep materials that are either recycled, collected in nature, or already on hand

  • 2 extended art projects that can be worked on over a longer period of time to build creative confidence, either collaboratively or individually in the classroom

  • Master supply list

  • Mindfulness routines to help nurture connection and physical and emotional development, build in opportunities to self-regulate, and feel grounded throughout the school day

  • Simple enrichment ideas to help regulate and provide descriptive language opportunities

  • Ways to extend learning through deeper exploration, observation, and discovery

  • Curricular connections within the guide’s creative offerings to math, literacy, STEM, social studies, and/or social emotional learning.

  • A rich, teacher-approved picture book list with an emphasis on diversity, inclusion, earth stewardship, and kindness

  • An artist spotlight that connects with the theme and nurtures a child’s curiosity, provides them with ways to notice and appreciate diverse perspectives, and establishes an early foundation for art appreciation

  • An at-a-glance reference printable of the month’s invitations for easy planning
